Estate Planning

Estate Planning with Attorney Lawrence BallewIf you have a loved one (young or old) who is not able to care for themselves and needs someone to make important decisions for them, it may be time to consider how to get authority to help them with their affairs.  A power of attorney or conservatorship may be options to consider.

You should also consider how their needs will be met once you’re gone or no longer able to help them.  You will need a good plan to protect their finances and other needs.  For example, if your child or loved one with a disability is likely to inherit a great deal of money or be awarded a judgment by a court, Medicaid eligibility can be preserved by designating a trustee to manage the funds for this person.  Click on the Special Needs Trusts page to find out how your loved one’s funds can be protected.
